Basic eyesight plays an essential role in enhancing independence and quality of life

A health volunteer assists with initial eye screenings at the Timo clinic.
The goal of our eye care projects at Haiti Health Initiative is to work toward long-term, sustainable solutions to improve the limited eye care resources in rural Haiti by supporting and enhancing existing medical and surgical eye care programs. HHI firmly believes that local Haitian ophthalmologists should provide ocular surgery for Haitians. As a result, support from HHI is meant to enhance the roles of Haitian ophthalmologists. Therefore, the main objective of our eye care projects is to increase access to Haitian eye care systems and professionals. We do this by educating the locals, performing screening ocular evaluations, providing simple eye care needs (such as glasses and medical eye treatments), and partnering with local eye care systems.
By performing baseline assessments and evaluating the effectiveness of our interventions, our eye care professionals are able to pinpoint problem areas in ocular health and focus on providing the most effective treatment. In conjunction with our local partners, our team is then able to create a sustainable plan for continued eye care and education within Haiti. In the meantime, our professionals are in the process of training community health professionals who can continue to help patients choose appropriate reading glasses and keep a list of patients who may need to see the ophthalmologist at the next scheduled clinic.
Make a major difference in the lives of others and donate to our ophthalmology projects now.
